Today is blog action day. A Day when thousand of bloggers are all talking about the same thing. The environment.
What does it mean to be green? And what are some steps we can take to reduce our carbon footprint?
My first thoughts on what being green means. When I first heard the term many years ago all I could think of was little green aliens roaming around on the planet, but today the terms carries a punch. That punch is the fact that most people are worried about the environment. It is more than cars getting good gas mileage now days. Two words. Organic Produce. How many people do you know that feed their families organic produce? What does that have to do with being green? Organic produce does not use pesticides that kill our environment. While this is one small area it is making a difference.
Being green actaully does save you money. Everyone wants a lower electric bill. Actually greenifiying your home can make that a reality. Changing out traditional light-bulbs for compact fluorescent can save you $60 a year and they save 300lbs of carbon dioxide!
Keeping your tires properly inflated can save you $840 per year and also saves 250 lbs of carbon dioxide!
Changing your thermometer in your house by two degrees can save you $100 each year. Turning it off when the weather is nice…even more!
With three easy steps we have saved almost $1000 dollars. Really that alone is worth being green. It is just an added bonus that while we are busy saving money we are also saving the world.
