Thirty years of story telling culminate in this collection of tales. In Amy Grant’s first book she weaves snapshots of her life together in a beautiful “mosaic”.
Amy’s fans have long enjoyed her stories from stage, but now everyone can pull up a porch swing, grab a cup of coffee, and share in the conversation.
For those who are familiar with Amy you probably have heard most of the stories, but others these are heartwarming stories. Even for those who have heard the stories think of a situation where your life parallels with the stories and remember that time in your life. Then share the conversation with a friend; it will make the journey sweeter.
As for myself I have had the fortune of sitting on Amy’s porch and having a conversation with her and one of the joys of this book is that it is very “Amy Conversational”.
Amy has a subtle way of welcoming everyone into her story, but then realizing it is also your own story and then realizing how sweet it is to share a common bond through the glorious story of your lives.
For those of you who do not know who Amy is. She has been on the music scene for thirty years. She has had number one hits, top ten hits, been on almost every major talk show, morning show, and TV show. She has stared in a movie, had her own TV show, and had her own TV special. She has won multiple awards, sold millions of records, but still finds more pleasure in sitting on her porch with a friend than all of these accolades. She has a warm and open spirit, inner peace, and an inner strength that carriers her through her days. She has a since of humor and enjoys her family.
I have listened to Amy’s music for over ten years and have had the pleasure of knowing her, as an occasional acquaintance, for about six years. This book truly is her personality. Her warmth shines through brilliantly.
My personal favorite story was one where she was up at her cabin praying. She talks about walking around and trying to pray out loud. This story is particularly vivid to me because I have been to her cabin at night before.
I was with a group at church and Amy opened up the cabin for our group. It was night and we had worship, did a bible study and then when we were leaving I remember stalling outside looking up at the sky. It was a time of great connection with God.
In this story Amy talks about how being in this place has a powerful effect on her:
“Maybe I should pray. Maybe out loud.
But when I opened my mouth the words seemed outside the moment.
My voice was too thin. The actual sounds inadequate and out of place.”
Nature has this effect on me too. Words often seem faint and shallow in the midst of creation. Sometimes it is better to bask in the glory that is surrounding.
This book is a good basking book. Grab a cup of coffee, sit on your porch, and enjoy the morning sunrise or the evening sunset. Let the words reach you where you are and know that wherever you are, you are not alone. Someone has traveled the road before you or is on the road with you now. This is a great book for the journey.

How interesting. I’ve been a fan of her music for a long time. I can’t say I knew anything else about here until now

The book really makes you remember why we loved her in the first place, doesn’t it?
You going to see her at Davis-Kidd? I would kill to be there.

Great review! It is obvious you are an Amy Grant fan. I enjoy her music, but I am having a hard time getting into her book. Not that I don’t love the stories, they just don’t flow for me.
