lonely days gone by without you in my life
even though i’ve tried so hard i do
don’t forget what you learned along the way
talk to him and keep him close to you
i’ve lived dangerously
not noticing at all what i quickly could become so soon
He is always there
He’s always been around
you will see Him when you change your view

what a fool i’ve been
what a fool i’ve been
just to think that i
can live my life
like time is on my sid

i could not see through all the pain i caused
i was lost for my sin blinded me
we serve a great God
for when we turn away
He remains so faithfully close to you

what a fool i’ve been
what a fool i’ve been
just to think that i
can live my life
like i would never die

These lyrics by Crystal Lewis are from one of my favorite songs by her “What A Fool I’ve Been”. They speak directly to the heart of where we are without direction, not just direction…God’s direction in our lives.

I am reminded of the parable of the ten virgins. Here is a recap. Ten virgins go out in the desert to wait on the bridesgroom. Half of them bring no oil for their lamps (they forget to bring batteries for their gps system). While the five that brought the oil are prepared in the dark 5 of them have to run off and get oil for the lamps and miss out on the party. Or I like to think about it they got lost in the desert since they had no batteries in their GPS. Either way those 5 virgins were stuck in a royal way. They did not heed the warnings, were fooling in preparing, and thought they could get by on the planning of others. Does this sound like anyone you know?

I know it sounds like me part of the time. I have done many foolish things over the years. One of my favorite stories is driving 5 hours to a golf tournament, brining no water, no sunscreen, wearing jeans in 100+ degree weather, and lasting 2 holes before getting sick and leaving.

My spiritual life is too important be left up to chance, to be a fool, to let the world persuade me to “just do it” instead of planning, thinking, and waiting.

What ares of your life are you a fool? What areas of your life do you need to give over control? What areas of your life are you not prepared for? We all have them and we all need to address them. So what are you going to do?

To be a fool to avoid being a fool - what a paradox we are in! I am sure that I am a fool when I should not be, and I am wise in my own eyes when I should be foolish.
