I got the news today that my young heart throbs New Kids On The Block were in fact reuniting. No word on what that means just yet, but either way my 5th grade self is screaming on the inside.
From 5th grade to 8th grade my walls were plastered with NKOTB posters. I had the bedding, t-shirts, trading cards, gum, dolls, comic books, tapes, cds, videos of concerts, pillows, and every magazine their face was on. I got up every Saturday morning to watch their cartoon and see if they would be on Saturday Morning Videos. My room was filled to the brim with everything. At one point I had a Joe wall, a Jordan wall, a group wall, and then Danny, Jon, and Donnie shared my final wall. My ceiling was reserved for Joe.
I never got the chance to see them in concert because they never came anywhere near where I lived in West Texas. So to hear the news that they are reuniting (in some capacity) makes me wonder if I will get to see them in concert. I have older friends who laugh, but I remind them that they liked the Monkees and Beatles. If they do tour I will take my 30 year old self and ‘Hang Tough’ at a show. I will ’step by step’ my way there! I will swoon when Joe sings “Please Don’t Go Girl” and somewhere between “Dirty Dawg” and “I’ll Be Loving You Forever” I will slip into the state of remembering what it was like to be young and have a crush on what seemed to be the perfect guy.
I admit that I do still have their ‘best of’ music in my iTunes collection and always will. I stuck with them till the bitter end and I do mean end. I remember the day the letter came in the mail that the fan club was over. I went from newsletter #1 to the final letter. For tonight I am excited that the news is out and the buzz is already taking place all over the internet and tv.
In the meantime check out http://www.nkotb.com
BTW: Still absolutely wonderful…

Great. Now I’m going to have ‘The Right Stuff’ in my head for a week.
I was never actually into them, but my sister (4 years younger) was obsessed, much like you described. This is interesting news for all the former groupies out there.
