Today was the monthly meeting of the Nashville Cohorts. John York was the speaker today and spoke on ‘New Perspectives of Paul’.
This was a good topic, but confirmed what I have known all along - it is a relational faith and one that can not be lived alone. John spoke of the judgmental God and how when we read the Bible we are looking at the text through a judgmental lens of law. That lens taints the message of Jesus and of Paul. It is not that we are sinners that have sinner - we are sinners who pulled away from a relationship to sin. This is not a new concept to me and it is one I have actually believed for some time and more importantly one I try to live out.
Another discussion that stemmed from this topic is denominations. How can we be true Christians (followers of Jesus) and be divided. How do we not let differences such as denomination, bible translations, and non-fundamental beliefs divide us so that we can not accomplish Jesus mission on this earth?
These were a few topics thrown around today. Do you have anything to add to the table? Any further recommended reading?
