Tonight I watched the movie Neverwas. The movie description struck a chord with me as do all movies that involve a fantasy land. This movie just happens to have a huge cast line up to make you wonder even more. The cast line up is Aaron Eckahart, Sir Ian McAllen William Hurt, Jessica Lang, Brittany Murphy, Alan Cummin, and Nick Note just to name a few.Though this movie has a slow start it wins you over with the enchanting story. From IMDB:
Zach Riley (Eckhart) is a successful psychiatrist looking for answers about his father’s (Nolte) troubled past at the Mill Wood psychiatric hospital. His father, author of a wildly popular children’s fantasy called Neverwas, struggled with depression that ultimately led to suicide. Among Zach’s patients at Mill Wood is a man, Gabriel (McKellen), who seems to know a lot about Zach, his father and the land of Neverwas. He also meets a woman (Murphy), an ardent fan of the Neverwas story and its author, who may have a hidden agenda. Zach must get to the core of the origins Neverwas before he finds the answers he’s looking for.
I really do not want to give anymore of the story away. This is a must see for anyone who believes in fairy tales or someone who is desperately trying to believe in anything. Sometimes the thing we need to believe in the most is the one thing that is going to save our lives.Tonight after I finished the movie I took my puppy outside to walk under the stars. Children were running to and fro screaming happy halloween. In my short walk I saw no less than 50 children all dressed up. Witches and tigers. Princesses and ballerinas. Baseball players and pirates. I just stood under the stars and smiled.Tonight my heart echos with them. Tonight my heart beats a little more freely and believes.I once had a Neverwas. It was a magic place that resided off to the side of my house. The path was overgrown with trees and thickets of grass. Only those who has been there before knew the steps to take to land safely at my doors. Once inside those four walls anything could happen. So many adventures were had in my house, that was painted from ceiling to floor in pink. I grew up on a farm and adventures were around every corner. From my rodeo kitty cat who rode my pet cow in the front yard. The same cow that would chase me around the yard to play.

One of my favorite adventures had me falling through the ceiling like Indiana Jones. In my pink house there was an attic that was rickety to say the least but I knew that the attic had stories to tell me. My friend and I gathered our courage to explore, but only one of us could get up because it required a push from the other. So being my house I decided I wanted to go.
Once up in the dirty dusty attic I began to explore. I was in another country somewhere in Egypt exploring the tombs and there it was a box. I grabbed the box in haste but it was boobietrapped and I fell through the ceiling, but I still had the box in hand. Once I had shaken off the dust and convinced my friend that I was quite alright we peered in the box. It was almost as light was coming up from inside the box welcoming into it’s secrets.
Inside the box was a stack of old letters. We opened the letters carefully and examined the other trinkets. It was a box of love letters. We read each one. The man who left the box told us a story of a love. Both of us were taken to a different world. After we read each letter and careful put them back in the box we decided it belonged back in the attic. We carefully placed the box back up and left.
As far as I know that box is still in that old building beside my parents house. Maybe it is waiting to be discovered by another child who is filled with wonder and ready to journey to another land. Whatever the case may be tonight, under those stars, I was back to that place and the warmth that feeling gives tonight is immeasurable.
Do you have a Neverwas? Do you go back to visit?
